How do you turn a simple two-word phrase into a visual story? As part of my illustration course, I took on a challenge: take short descriptive prompts and bring them to life using craft paper, watercolors, white pencil, and black ink.

Here is how I visually interpreted the written word, one prompt at a time:

1. Shiny Car

Why settle for standard red or black when you can go full classic chic? I picked deep violet and purple tones. The secret trick to making it gleam without spending days on shading was adding crisp white pencil highlights right onto the craft paper.

2. Broken Vase

A terracotta vase shattered on the floor, and a completely unbothered fluffy cat sitting right next to the crime scene. The prompt only said “broken vase,” but let’s be honest—any pet owner knows there’s always a furry mastermind behind the chaos!

3. Spooky House

A cozy cabin tucked deep in the woods with a tiny witch flying past on her broomstick. It’s got warm glowing windows mixed with dark ink strokes—the perfect balance between a magical fairytale and a spooky autumn vibe.

4. Little Old Man

This one is deeply special to me—I drew this character inspired by my amazing 93-year-old dad. I captured him enjoying a peaceful moment outdoors by his bicycle, full of life, warmth, and timeless charm.

5. Contented Cow

Meet the absolute queen of relaxation! She’s wearing a delicate flower crown, basking in a sunny field, and even has a tiny butterfly perched on her tail. Pure watercolor serenity.

6. Angry Horse

To show real frustration, I went wild with dynamic red and pink strokes! I focused on the sharp lines and fiery energy—this horse looks like it just got stuck in line at the post office.

7. Fat Rabbit

My personal star of the collection: a chubby, bright blue-purple bunny holding a tiny birthday cake with a glowing candle. He’s giving you the sweetest innocent look, but make no mistake—that cake is 100% not for sharing!

8. Tasty Cake

A rich, layered honey cake loaded with plump, juicy blueberries. Working with warm yellows and deep blues on craft paper made it look so delicious that painting it was pure torture for my appetite.

9. Comfortable Chair

A cozy rocking chair nestled right in the middle of a blooming garden surrounded by wildflowers. It’s practically screaming at you to drop everything, grab a cup of tea, and take a long afternoon nap.
